NanoSonic
has developed relationships with several government agencies and larger
company partners. We have received Small Business Innovative Research
(SBIR) program funds from DARPA, the Air Force, the Ballistic Missile
Defense Organization, NASA, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy and NIST.
Larger company partners have participated in these programs, as well as
through separate manufacturing efforts.
NASA has awarded NanoSonic, Inc. a Phase
2 contract for its 2000 Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program.
STTR programs combine the talents of small business and universities to
transfer, develop, and commercialize key technologies. NASA announced
only nine STTR awards nationwide in this highly competitive process. This
Phase 2 funding continues development of the "most promising previously
selected Phase I projects," according to NASA's Michael Braukus. The Phase
2 project allows NanoSonic to continue its work on nanostructured high
temperature optical filters for protecting spectroscopic instrumentation.
NanoSonic plans to subcontract $150,000 of this NASA award over the next
two years to Virginia Tech's Fiber and Electro Optic Research Center.
NanoSonic is featured in the Missile Defense Agency's Technology Applications
Program. See: http://www.mdatechnology.net/techsearch.asp?sort=firm
