NanoSonic's
President, Dr. Richard O. Claus,
is a recognized expert in advanced materials and structures. Since receiving
his Ph.D. in 1977 from the Johns Hopkins University, he has been a member
of the faculty of Virginia Tech's College of Engineering. He is the author
of more than 850 technical journal and conference publications, holds
30 issued patents, most concerning smart materials and structures and
nanotechnology. Dr. Claus is co-editor-in-chief of the Smart Materials
and Structures journal of the Institute of Physics. He received the
Optical Engineering Societys Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002
for his work in so-called "smart structures." He was named Virginia's
Outstanding Scientist for 2001.He has won international awards for research
from professional organizations and government agencies, including the
Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers, the American Society
of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the
Instrument Society of America, SPIE -The International Society for Optical
Engineering, and NASA. (return
