HybridShield Fire Retardant Coating

NanoSonic’s HybridShield™ Fire Retardant Coating is an advanced polymer-based nanotechnology that provides state-of-the-art fire and flame protection to a broad spectrum of materials without the threat of toxic byproducts during combustion. These hybrid protective coatings may be applied to metallic, ceramic, polymeric, and composite structures using simple and low-cost coating techniques. In June 2011, R&D Magazine named HybridSil™/Shield as one of the 100 most technologically significant products introduced worldwide during the past year. The Chicago Tribune has called these R&D awards “The Oscars of Invention.” This award marks the second time NanoSonic, Inc. has won a Research and Development 100 Award in the international competition. The first time was for its development of Metal Rubber Textiles.

TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION
HybridShield fire retardant non-halogenated, low-VOC coating materials are provided as conventional two-part resins that may be deposited through bulk casting, painting and airless spray techniques. The processing times of the mixed resins may be tailored for 20 – 60 minutes at room temperature followed by curing within 24 hours. HybridShield has passed numerous ASTM and other standardized material tests and outperforms known easily-applied fire retardant material systems.

HybridShield Fire Retardant House on Fire NanoSonic worked with the Blacksburg, Virginia, fire department to test NanoSonic’s HybridShield™ Fire Retardant Coating. This product is a polymer-based technology that provides an innovative, state-of-the-art protective coating solution for providing enhanced blast and flame protection.
