Since 2001 NanoSonic, Inc. has achieved substantial, innovative research successes and garnered multiple awards, resulting in numerous articles in major publications such as The Economist, Popular Science, and Forbes. The production company, ScienCentral Inc., filmed a segment on NanoSonic that aired on ABC News' local affiliates that reached some two million viewers. Virginia Business Magazine named NanoSonic the 2007 Small Business of the Year. The state's newspapers, the Roanoke Times and the Richmond Times Dispatch, have produced numerous articles about NanoSonic's successes, and some of these articles have traveled on the Knight Ridder wire service. National Public Radio has also featured NanoSonic's patented materials and the environmentally friendly manner in which they are manufactured.

In 2006, the Southern Technology Council and Georgia Tech finished a survey of the 13 Southern states on the strength of small businesses in nanotechnology, NanoSonic emerged as the regional leader in terms of the overall dollar amount of contracts it received, as well as the number of grants awarded between 1995 and 2002. The report, Connecting the Dots: Creating a Southern Nanotechnology Network, cited only five nanotechnology firms in the 13 states that received the upper limit of 14 to 39 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program awards, totaling from $3.6 million to more than $10 million. NanoSonic again made headlines as the company emerged as the leader in both categories with the 39 awards, totaling $10,347,956 in funding.
